\"\"<\/a>Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic this was my first walk in boots since March 15th, but having completed lots of “local miles” in trainers, and with the lockdown restrictions slightly eased, I was at last able to get back to the hills. I once again opted for Hayfield, one of my favourite walk start points, as the Sett Valley Trail car park was large enough and I knew it to be open. My route for the day was a little flexible, as I didn’t know what my hill fitness would be like following the enforced lay-off, but I had determined to visit Harry Hut having not been there for many years. It was a lovely sunny day and I booted up full of enthusiasm for my day in the hills. My route initially took me along the Sett Valley Trail and past the ADRC<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong> Founder’s Bench, before I left this behind to begin my first climb for a long time. Lantern Pike looked well in the sunshine and I reached the summit without much difficulty, having taken the gradients very slowly. The views were really good but I did not linger and descended to cross fields and use paths and tracks to reach the A624. Crossing this I began the next ascent to Burnt Hill and then Mill Hill, but I left the path part way and completed an out and back to visit my main objective of Harry Hut, where I took a well deserved (and needed) rest, had some lunch and took in the glorious views. I am not generally one for out and back visits to summits but as I had no fixed plan for the day and was just enjoying myself it was no problem this time. Having reached Mill Hill I considered my options and decided to descend at this point via William Clough to Kinder Reservoir. Up to the William Clough option I had not met many fellow enthusiasts at all but the clough was now quite busy with people making the climb from Hayfield. My next move on reflection was a mistake as I decided to climb again and use the Snake Path to return to Hayfield rather than make my way back by travelling along the valley. The climb was hard but I coped well enough, only realising later that I had allowed myself to become dehydrated – silly boy! Apart from this error the day went\u00a0 very well and I was pleased that my overall level of fitness had stood me in good stead for my first outing since lockdown was introduced.<\/p>\n
