The walk was a part of a couple of days away at the Black Bull in Sedbergh, which was the start point of the walk. The day began in damp and misty conditions, but, undaunted we set off in anticipation of a good walk together, something that we had not done for a number of years. The climb to the summit of Winder, the southernmost hill of the Howgill Fells, and lowest at 1,552&#8242; was straightforward, albeit murky and without any views, was reached without incident. Following a brief stop for the usual summit photographs we quickly left the top and began our descent to the River Lune and the lower ground, where visibility was much improved. The return to Sedbergh took us via Lincoln&#8217;s Inn Bridge, Underwinder, and Howgill Lane and was pleasant and easy walking &#8211; except for the mud, glorious mud, which was much in evidence throughout this lower section.
