Not a major expedition this one – coming in at just under ten miles. The route did however give me the opportunity to re-visit the four main outdoor features around Malham – Janet’s Foss, Gordale Scar, Malham Tarn and Malham Cove, and visit them I did, with thirteen other like-minded souls from my local walking club. The areas around each of the aforementioned “attractions” were particularly busy with lots of visitors, both walkers and non-walkers, enjoying these natural features, but the miles between each were much quieter, particularly on the higher ground. Perhaps the cool weather was a factor for although early August, it could well have been late October.
Once back in Malham, and with the walk safely completed, the establishments serving various forms of refreshments to weary walkers were very popular, and the local economy was contributed to by all.
Overall this was a good day, with the wet stuff only making an appearance for the last mile or so of the walk, but then becoming a constant and irritating companion for the journey home. A bit of damp however, as we all know, is a small price to pay for a wonderful day in the hills. Good scenery and good company to enjoy it with – perfect.
