Carrington Moss and Lindow Common

Carrington Moss and Lindow Common

As the Covid-19 restrictions and then Lockdown 3 take hold I have again had to look seriously at local walks – which have sadly no hills and therefore no upland scenery. However, with things as they are there is nothing that can be done, and I take some comfort from the fact that I am getting out and making of it what I can.

On January 3rd I walked from my doorstep on to Carrington Moss and completed a nice, and very easy walk, with plenty of snow and ice still on the ground. There are lots of options on the Moss and this variant gave me 7.5 miles of flat walking on mainly wide tracks and with plenty of open space and fresh air.

The following day, and prior to the latest Government announcement re’ Covid-19, I travelled a few miles into Cheshire in order to walk from Lindow Common. Included in my route was a section of the North Cheshire Way alongside one of the Manchester Airport runways, which I have wanted to explore for quite a while. The walk was 8 miles, and in addition to the snow and ice there was oodles and oodles of mud, glorious mud, which made for hard going at times. Like Carrington Moss there are many options in the countryside around Lindow and I will return here to explore more – when restrictions allow.
